Leaders who have a few notches on their belt can get complacent and feel they can do no wrong. The focus tends to be on savouring current success instead of addressing fundamental areas of improvement, both known as well as emerging.
Organizations need to keep things real and keep such leaders honest since a streak of success, more often than not, becomes a convenient reason to forego such discussions. Without a systematic and cadenced approach to leadership development, this can be challenging. There is limited appetite to chase after “winning” leaders.
